The Art of the Consult

Client consultations are the most important part of any service. It is the foundation where trust is built between the client and stylist. As a salon owner & stylist of over 13 years, I can't tell you how many times the consult has helped my client achieve their desired hair goals and paint the picture in my mind of exactly what they are looking for.

If you’re heading into the salon I always suggest creating a Pinterest board of what your desired style, color or cut is. From there your stylists can get a visual and talk through if the look is achievable. A picture is worth a thousand words, but coming to the chair asking to become a natural looking blonde when your hair is jet black, might not be in the cards for your hair type or one visit.

The stylist can ask more in-depth questions to ensure both the stylist and client are on the same page with expectations. That way, everyone leaves the chair happy and you’re more likely to walk away from the experience with a smile on your face and a head of hair exactly as you imagined!

In depth consultations will help keep the lines of communication open resulting in satisfied clients. Spend time at your next appointment talking to your stylist and asking questions!

As a stylist, I agree with having a visual board to go off of. I also never give my clients the power of a consult, I take power and tell them what they need. Usually it leaves them 100 percent plus satisfied and educated when they leave the salon.
